What to Expect

Will there be any mess?
The short answer is No.

We are trained in sweeping best practices, which ensure that soot does not escape into the room during the sweeping process.

What should I prepare before your arrival?
Please remove ornaments, vases, etc from the hearth and surrounding mantels prior to our arrival, and ensure that there is a clear path to the working area in front of the fireplace or appliance.

Please ensure the appliance or fireplace is not in use, and has had time to cool, particularly with Rayburn or Aga appliances.

How long will it take?

On average it will take approximately 30 minutes to carry out the sweeping process from start to finish. However on rare occasions when there is a large inglenook to clear or there is an obstruction in the chimney such as a birds nest, it may take additional time, which is chargeable. Please see services and prices page.

How can I pay?

We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards and contactless methods (Apple, Android, Google and Samsung pay) via the Zettle card reading system.

Payment Is required on completion of the work.

Can you remind me about a Sweep?

We operate a rolling diary and can contact you on a pre-agreed basis (often annual) for regular sweeps and servicing.

A chimney fire can often be the result of a heavily tarred up flue. A fire occurs when the tar deposits ignite and burn uncontrollably within the flue – damage is often not restricted simply to the chimney stack but spreads to roofing and structural parts of the building.

The best prevention for chimney fires is to have the chimney swept regularly and by a professional.

The sweeping interval guide below gives you an idea of how often your chimney needs to be swept.
